"Khurkhura" Waterfall is one of Salmas City's beautiful waterfalls in the East part of Kurdistan. This waterfall is known by three names: Sulava Khurkhura, Sulava Mamakani, and Sulava Galiyesouli.
Since Khurkhura or Mamakan waterfall is near Mamakan village, it is also known by this name. this waterfall is 80 kilometers north of Urmia city and 40 kilometers away from Salmas city.
This waterfall is almost 35 meters high. It is located near Khurkhura valley. Khurkhura Valley is also a very beautiful place and a tourist destination where they can visit after seeing the waterfall.
This waterfall is an attractive tourist destination in all four seasons, especially during Winter it is the most beautiful.
This place has beautiful scenery during Spring which attracts many Iranian and foreign tourists. In addition to enjoying the surrounding areas, tourists also can benefit from the valuable and rich edible plants found in this valley. Most of the apothecary experts come to this valley to collect beneficial plants for their natural medicines. Not only the tourists visit this place during Spring, Summer, and Fall but they also come here during Winter. This waterfall's beauty intensifies during Winter because this area is very cold during Winter which makes the waterfall freeze. The icy white waterfall creates splendid scenery for the tourists in the Winter.
The splendid beauty of this waterfall, depending on the weather remains ecstatic. During Summer, when the waterfall pours down, it creates a little pond at the bottom of the valley which gives the scenery an even more beautiful view. On the other hand, this pond helps the weather stay mild. Tourists can swim in this pond, too.
The rocks around this waterfall look like a wall and there are flowers growing in these rocks.
In fact, this waterfall has not been taken care of by any officials of the Iranian government. Since the road to this waterfall is somehow hard to pass, the local people complain about it because they believe if the road could be fixed and fundamental services were dedicated to this area, the number of tourists would increase in all four seasons of the year.
A number of professional mountaineers and tourists who have visited Khurkhura waterfall before have talked about these complaints about the lack of proper services and a well-structured road to this waterfall on their social media pages. They have said that a beautiful place like this waterfall was given more attention, not only in the East part of Kurdistan and Iran but even the foreign tourists would want to visit it more often.
The government of Iran cannot care less about road repair and tourist destinations. The local people of this area claim that if the roads to the waterfall could be fixed and people could bring their families here, it could make a great difference because the elderly cannot come here and pass through the trails easily. In order for the tourists to visit this place, they have to pass through a very difficult route.
