Qasemlu Valley is known by this name among all the people of the region. It is derived from the name of "Abdulrahman Ghassemlou", the immortal leader of the Kurdish people. The name of this valley has been changed to “Shuhada” by the Islamic Republic of Iran, but nobody knows it by the name given by the occupier and everyone calls it the valley of Qasemlu. The reason for changing the name is the 1979 Iranian Revolution, the occupation of Kurdistan by the Islamic Republic of Iran to "Shuhada" is the fighting between the forces of the Islamic Republic of Iran and the Peshmergas of the Kurdistan Democratic Party of Iran. Because of the killing of hundreds of occupying forces by the heroic Peshmergas, the regime tried to change Qasemlu's name to Shuhada. In reality, however, their attempt was unsuccessful and the people of Urmia and even other regions still know Qasemlu valley by its real name.

The valley of the martyred leader of the Kurdish people, Dr. Abdulrahman Ghassemlou, is also located in this valley and dozens of people visit this valley every day because of this Kurdish leader.
