Geography of Khabat District
Khabat district is one of the districts of Erbil province. This district is located in the west of Erbil on the Erbil-Mosul road, 37 km from the center of Erbil, and it is the gateway to connect the two cities of Mosul and Duhok to Erbil province. In terms of astronomical position and Aristonomic position, it is located between latitudes 35-53 and 34-36 north and longitudes 35-43 and 07-44 east.
This district consists of 4 sub-districts: Darashakran, Rizgari, Kawrgosk, and Khabat. It also includes 26 neighborhoods and 64 villages. About 29000 people reside within the district center.
Agriculture in Khabat district
Khabat district is located on the Great Zab River and is known as an important agricultural and tourism area. Because there is the largest irrigation project, many kinds of crops are grown in this area, there is a large forest area, and there is a large area of cultivated land in this area. The total area of Khabat district is 275,137 dunams or 687 square kilometers.

Tourism
Khabat's geographical location between the cities of Erbil, Mosul, and Duhok, the presence of the Great Zab River, and the abundant greenery of forests provide a favorable environment for tourism. For this purpose, a very large and good area has been identified for the tourism project and the project is ready in the Investment Board and is waiting for governmental or private investment to receive the project and start implementing it. This project will be a reason for the revival of tourism and provide job opportunities and business for the people of the region. The presence of the Great Zab River in the Khabat district is another reason why tourists, especially the people of Erbil, in summer or spring, spend a good time near the Great Zab River in the district.
History of Khabat District
The history of Khabat district in terms of its formation and becoming a district goes back to the March 1970 agreement that determined the center of the district and named it Khabat. The first governor of this district was Rizgar Mustafa Mohammed. Khabat after becoming a district, has seen significant progress.
In South Kurdistan, March 5, 1991, is registered as the day of the uprising. Because on this day the residents of Ranya district and its surroundings rose and liberated the city. But March 4, 1991, was the day of the uprising because on this day the masses rose in Khabat camp and attacked the evil institutions of the Ba'ath regime.
Khabat district has become an important district in terms of geographical location and terms of economic income at the level of Erbil province and the Kurdistan Region.
The district director said that several tourism and industrial projects are being established in the Khabat district, which will further enhance the position of the district at the level of Erbil province.
