Zalm Village, the Great Men's Hometown and an Attractive Tourist Resort

Zalm is a village located in the eastern part of Khurmal district in Halabja province of the southern part of Kurdistan.

It is bordered by Dzli village in the East part of Kurdistan to the north, Ahmadawa village to the south, Daray Mar village to the east, and Nawbakhan village to the west. The area is a mountainous area located between a long valley and has little flat land.

Zalm village is located in the upper part of Zalm valley and near the source of Zalm river. The secret of Zalm village is in the Zalm source and tall walnut trees. The name of the village comes from Ze, a place with a lot of water. The villagers are mainly engaged in trading and livestock breeding.

The total population of Zalm village is 540 families living outside the village, but their identity is Zalm village. According to the statistics of December 2022, there are 18 families with 58 people and 33 males and the number of females is 24. The village has a total of 25 houses.

Religiously, the villagers are Muslim, and half of the population speaks Hawrami and the other part speaks Sorani.

In 1995, the first school was built in Zalm village by Sheikh Sadiq Sargati. At that time, there were about 28 students. Later, the school was closed a few times, and finally, in 2015 the school was completely closed.

Zalm village is the home of dozens of writers, and historical, religious, political, and artistic personalities in Kurdistan and the world, including the world-famous scientist Professor Dr. Mustafa Zalmi. This village has also been mentioned in Kurdish literature and the historical and political books of Kurdistan.

Due to its charming nature, it is considered the most important resort in Halabja province and is famous for its pomegranate, fig, and pomegranate paste. Zalm waterfall is a beautiful landscape and an important source of water in Kurdistan. When you approach Zalm village, the sound of Zalm water and the village on the green, and the houses built by its inhabitants from mountain stones give it an attractive view that is impossible to forget.

In 1999, Zalm source supplied electricity to three villages with a turbine system.

If you look at it historically, there is Zalmi Castle, built by Khan Ahmad Khan, the Emir of the Ardalan Emirate, and Gopa Khila, the tomb of the Madyan kings.

Zalm Resort is one of the most beautiful resorts in Kurdistan and has pleasant and cool weather. Because of the beauty and pleasantness of the place and the weather, many tourists from most parts of Kurdistan and abroad visit it and enjoy it.

The resort is of Zalm and some people have mistakenly registered the name as Ahmadawa Resort, while Ahmadawa is located below Zalm and they have no gardens and greenery and the water belongs to Zalm source.

Several tourists say, "Although the road to reach this village is difficult, has not been an obstacle to the reconstruction, and the appearance of the resort, although the village itself is old, but has become a source of livelihood for some families."
