Darbandi Bazian Council is one of the ancient and historical monuments of Kurdistan. This port is known as "Ruta Port or Wshka Port" because it was a dry and bare area without trees.

This council is located in the western part of the Bazian area, near the Takya district of Chamchamal, between the two cities of Sulaimani and Kirkuk. Darbandi Bazian is 45 km from Sulaimani and 60 km from Kirkuk. It is not known during which state or ruler and king this council was first established. According to historical sources and archaeologists, the archaeological site of Darbandi Bazian dates back to 3000 years ago.

When the Akkadian leader Ashur Banipal tried to conquer Zamwa, he passed by this council and mentioned it. This council is also referred to as the Babit in the history of the Byzantine Empire.

The Persian Islamic geographer and historian Hamdullah Mostofi mentioned Darbandi Bazian in his book Nizha al-Qulub and called it the port of the Caliph.

On the other hand, the famous English explorer Claudius James Rich mentioned this port in his famous book Rich's Journey to Kurdistan. The Persian historian Mirza Mahdi Khan in his book "History of Nader Shah" mentioned the port of Bazian and called it "Aq Darband" meaning "white port", because the port is made of white stones.

The history of this council becomes clearer during the Baban dynasty. In 1860, it was renovated into a strong council to protect Sulaimani, the capital of the emirate.

During the reign of Sheikh Mahmoud Hafid, when the British tried to destroy the government of Sheikh Mahmoud, (because Sheikh Mahmoud did not obey the wishes of the British) and attacked the city of Sulaimani, once again another heroic story was recorded in this port.

According to historical sources, the British 18th Infantry, led by General Fraser, the famous leader of World War I, consisted of about 70000 troops. This force, which was supported by hundreds of tanks, artillery, and armored vehicles, and the entire army was supported by the British Air Force, moved from Mosul to Sulaimani and met with the forces of Sheikh Mahmoud King of Kurdistan in Bazian.

On June 19, 1919, Sheikh Mahmud turned Bazian port into a battlefield to confront the British and recorded the story of Barda Qaraman, which was a victory for the invading army. The story of Darbandi Bazian became a bright history and was recorded in the bloody pages of the Kurdish people's history.

Sheikh Mahmoud and his comrades fought bravely against the attacks of the enemies and invaders of Kurdistan. Suddenly, the Kurdistan king was wounded by two bullets from a Mongol soldier and fell. According to historical sources, more than 500 Kurdish heroes and fighters were killed and more than 200 Kurdish fighters were taken prisoner. The enemy suffered heavy casualties estimated at hundreds of soldiers.

Renovation of Bazian Port Council:

In the 19th century, Abdulrahman Pasha Baban renovated the port twice. According to historical sources, from thousands of BC to the early 20th century, this port was the line of defense of the Kurdish state and Kurdish emirs.

This council, which is one of the oldest and historical monuments of our nation, has been renovated several times in recent years. It was renovated for the last time on 9/5/2013 in three phases by the Kurdistan Regional Government and was announced in a public ceremony.
