Chawgi Rishen, a River Flowing from the Center of a Mountain

Rishen village is one of the most beautiful villages in the South part of Kurdistan. Due to the presence of a spring in this village that flows like a river from the heart of a mountain, it has an attractive scenery and has become an important tourist place in the South part of Kurdistan.

This village is located in Khurmal town in Halabja province. In the northeastern part of the village, Reshin Village is located at the skirt of Mount Sooren. A spring full of water with a river flowing through it flows from the foot of Mount Sooren. This water source is located above the village of Rishen and got its name from the village, Chawgi Rishen (Rishen source).

It is said that the great Kurdish poet, Qane’, known as the poet of the oppressed people of Kurdistan, was a school teacher in the village of Sarchnar in the Mukeryan region in the East part of Kurdistan during the Kurdistan Republic, was born in Rishen village.

The presence of Chawgi Rishen above this village has made many people visit it every year from spring to autumn and this village has become an important tourist area in the South part of Kurdistan.

The population of Reshin village is only 65 families and the 65 houses of these families are scattered and far due to the availability of agricultural land in the village. The main occupation of the villagers is agriculture and livestock breeding.

The Rishen water source is used for both, agriculture and drinking, by the villagers.

The most important crops produced in the village are:

Wheat, grapes, cucumbers, pomegranates, tomatoes, onions, apples, peas, pears, and many other crops.

Few families raise livestock, and the villagers are mostly engaged in agriculture.

The water that flows from Chawgi Rshen is more than the need for agriculture and drinking of the villagers, so as a river reaches the village of "Qadafar" located down the village of Rishen and most of the farmers of this village use the water for drinking and agriculture, too.

There is another water source in Rishen called Shilim. This water, which is also somewhat salty and hot, differs from the water known as Chawgi Rishen.

Rishen village has been forcibly evacuated several times, but the original inhabitants of the village have returned to their homeland and rebuilt it.
