An Ancient Cave, about 100 to 120 Million Years Found in Gurgum City in the North of Kurdistan

The history of these caves is very old based on the large and tall Columns in the caves. Even over time, they have connected some nets, ropes, and knives.

The ecotourism group of Gurgum (Merish) known as Kados has climbed Koinolok mountain in Tekir town near Gurgum and has found a cave in the Shalamani Ardich region. According to Turkey news agencies, mountaineers have walked into the cave for 400 meters. However, since they did not have the required equipment then, they had to go back and inform the authorities about this discovery.

A professional team led by the head of the Nature Conservancy Organization, Joum’e Bilgahan, visited the cave and did some experiments. Kados ecotourism group spokesman Emreh Marjan said they entered the cave after investigating the region.

Marjan also reported: “There are many strange knives, baskets, and columns. Since we are not professional archeologists, we informed the authorities and asked for their cooperation. We also made phone calls to find out more about the issue. We asked the tourism officials to help us make Gurgum to be represented as a tourist attraction.”

Dr. Javdat Merih Arak says there are several mountains in the north and northwestern parts of Gurgum thus there are many caves underneath the rocks. He also pointed out that several natural caves have been marked to be searched later.

Near the source of the Arkoit river, several deep and long caves have been found according to Arak. These caves are estimated to be 100 to 120 million years old. Some more studies are done on these caves and show that some of them are linked together or their mutual paths have been separated.
