Awiyar Mountain
Mount Awiyar is located at an altitude of 2550 meters above sea level, 3 kilometers from the city of Sna in the East part of Kurdistan.
Awiyar means a place with a lot of water, so they named this mountain Awiyar because the mountain has a lot of groundwater and springs, including "Sangshken Spring, Shafa Spring, and Haft Asiab" that the local people use for drinking; the reason is that the water in Sna has been smelling and unclean for many years. Awiyar is known in two parts, the Great Awiyar with an altitude of 2550 meters, and the Small Awiyar with an altitude of 2350 meters. The city of Sna is located at the foothill of this mountain.
The water of the springs of Mount Awiyar, which also has a forest park in it, is still the source of water for the historical palaces of Khasrowawa, Asaf, Wakil, and many other historical buildings.
Awiyar has become an identity for Sna and many poets have written poems for this high mountain. In addition, it has become a touristic place that anyone who visits Sna will definitely go to Awiyar.
Mount Awiyar contains several touristic parks, including Amiriya Park, Amaniya Park, Children's Park, and Gwezakwer Forest. In recent years, the newly built Mashahir Park has been added. The parks also have accommodation for tourists.
Because of its location and beautiful scenery, climbers go climbing, even climbers from other cities go there.
The Amiriya Park is considered one of the largest cinemas in the world with a 12 x 25-meter screen, the sound of the films comes through FM radio from anywhere in the Awiyar, and the screen is set in such a place that can accommodate 10000 people and see it.
Unfortunately, the use of minerals in the Awiyar Mountain has caused the collapse of part of this mountain and the relevant authorities have ignored this disaster and do not pay attention to it. Truck traffic has caused mud and prevented tourists and climbers from climbing the mountain.
