The great plains of Kurdistan

Plains are a topographical phenomenon. The plains of Great Kurdistan have their own importance and value in many ways such as in terms of the settlement, economy, politics, etc., the plains include the most important part of Kurdistan's topography.

Plains in Kurdistan are important centers of prosperity, tourism, and easy provision of services such as electricity, roads, goods, agriculture, etc.

The most important plains in Great Kurdistan can be identified as follows:

Hawler (Erbil) Plain, Sharazoor Plain, Shingal (Sinjar) Plain, Ranya Plain, Harir Plain, Hamrin Plain, Zakho Plain, Qaraj Plain, and Kandenawa Plain in South Kurdistan.

Kamyaran Plain, Mahidasht Plain, Sahne and Kermashan (Kermanshah) Plain, Mariwan Plain, Dewlan (Dehloran) Plain, Hasanawa Plain, and Bijar Plain in East Kurdistan.

Sindi Plain, Urfa Plain, Ighdir Plain, and Tali Bana Plain, etc. in North Kurdistan.

Each of these plains stretches along an area and has its own importance.

1. Ighdir Plain: One of the fertile plains of North Kurdistan, which is between 600-800 meters above sea level in the east, and the more goes to the west, the higher it reaches about 1000-1200 meters above sea level in the west.

2. Sharazoor Plain: Another important plain of Kurdistan is located in southern Kurdistan and has special importance in terms of prosperity, especially agriculture. The Sharazoor plain is called the Black Soil and is 44- 46 km long from east to west.

3. Erbil Plain: Another important plain in South Kurdistan, which has been the center of residence and agriculture and about 1.5 to 2 million people live in it, with an area of 43 km.

4. Urfa Plain: This plain is located in the southern part of the city of Urfa in North Kurdistan. It is 49-51 km long from north to south, and the average height of the plain is between 500-700 meters above sea level. This plain is located between the Bidsurkh and Alwand heights and is very fertile due to the sand and soil washed away from the mountains and transferred to the plains.

5. Mariwan Plain: This plain is located in East Kurdistan. Shahidan mountains are behind the plain and are located in the north of the Mariwan plain, the mountains of Waisa and Mirhaj are located in the south and west, and the hills of the Garran River are located in the east. The Mariwan plain is very fertile and is of great importance in terms of agriculture. Its average height is 1250-1360 meters above sea level.

6. Sahne and Kermashan plains: This plain is one of the most important plains in East Kurdistan with an area of 90 kilometers. Shaho and Praw heights are located in the northern part. Several rivers also pass through this plain.

These are some examples of the vast and fertile plains that are an important source of income, a great economy, and greenery and forests for Kurdistan. All of this and even more than this is due to Kurdistan's geographical location.
