Leila Nourani

Hairpin

It is a gold or silver piece of jewelry. A large sized ball is attached to a large pin which is used to pin on the Kochka (a part of Kurdish women's clothes to cover their heads) with some rings hanging on it. A pom like decorative item is attached to the rings. This pin has two smaller pins that are used to fix the hairpin to the Kochka. These smaller pins can be designed simply or decorated.

Gold pin

It is a piece of jewelry made of a large gold nail with a gold coin on top of it. It is used to be pinned to the collar or on the chest of the dress. This pin was used instead of buttons and it was worn mostly by the rich people.

Gold hairpin

It is a flat hairpin with two little gold coins on each end of it and a ball shaped part in the middle that looks like Sarpishtwen designs. A chain is attached to the pin with three rubies. There is another type of this hairpin with three larger coins on it, the chain is attached to it with a ruby or another coin. It can also be made simply without the chain. Another type is made with several ball shaped parts like Sarpishtwen designs attached to several pieces of chains and rubies which is the largest type of hairpin.

In the past, when they used to wear Taskilaw or Kochka (a kind of women's hat and head cover) they used to have agrija (similar to hair bangs), so they would use these hair pins to keep their agrija away from their face.

 Shoulder pins

It is a gold or silver pin to fix Dasmal (a shawl wrapped around the shoulders and chest) in place. The gold type has three different forms.

1. The main part of it contains three little ball shaped designs.

2. The main part contains three little flower shaped designs with a little gem in the middle of each flower.

3. The main part contains three little gold coins back-to-back.

Hand chain

A set of sequins put on a lace to be worn as a bracelet.

Bardasmal

It is a kind of jewelry that looks like a flower or a flower and a leaf that is worn on the chest to keep the middle part of Dasmal fixed.

Peshdasmal

It is a gold or silver or knitted sequin piece of jewelry that is used to make the Dasmal heavier so that it would stay in place. It is also worn on the chest and in the middle of Dasmal.
