A Kurdish language teacher has been sentenced to 11 years in prison in Sna (Sanandaj)

Saywan Ibrahimi, a Kurdish language teacher and a member of the board of directors of Nojin Cultural and Social NGO in Sna, was sentenced to 11 years in prison by Branch 1 of the Revolutionary Court of Sanandaj.

Saywan Ibrahimi was sentenced to 10 years in prison by the Sanandaj Revolutionary Court headed by Judge Karami on charges of forming “groups to disrupt public security” and one year on charges of “propaganda against the government”.

In August, the Criminal Court of Sanandaj sentenced him to one year in prison, exile, and 40 lashes on charges of “disrupting public security”. The Court of Appeal then upheld his prison and lashes sentences and quashed his exile.

Saywan Ibrahimi said on his Instagram account that charges that led to his 12-year prison sentence include: "‌having responsibility in Nojin NGO and its activities," "supporting the resistance of his wife, Zara Mohammadi", "publishing photos of martyrs on Social media”, and "having a connection to Kurd TV channel”. This is even though he is not aware of the existence of such a channel.

Saywan Ibrahimi's wife, Zara Mohammadi, was sentenced to five years in prison by the Revolutionary Court of Sanandaj last year and was sent to prison. She was later suspiciously released from prison without informing her and her lawyer.
