Biography of the Singer Baqi Khdo

The singer Baqi Khdo was born in 1913 in the Sheran region near Kobane, West Kurdistan, and is the singer of Sruj Plain.

His father's name was Khdo Hindawi and his mother's name was Amsha Masto. Baqi Khdo is married twice, has 12 sons and eight daughters in total, and his children still live in Kobane.

Baqi Khdo, like many famous Kurdish singers, has become a great singer and has been respected among people. He is one of the singers who has preserved the classical stories and Kurdish experiences with his voice.

The Kurdish singer stopped singing in 1995 due to illness. Baqi Khdo's life was spent in poverty and misery. While Baqi Khdo was singing, Mohammad Duman played Kamancha and Mohammad Guli played Tambour.

Vocalist Baqi Khdo is rich in art and has recorded several music albums and tapes.

Baqi Khdo is famous for his songs such as Dalale Adule, Dawreshe Avdi, Bemal, Mam and Zeen, Tayar, Dalali Qizkan, Lo Dlo, and many others, and his voice has spread throughout Kurdistan.

Kurdish singer Baqi Khdo, who was born in the western part of Kurdistan, was famous throughout the Sruj Plain, Raha, Dilok, and Jazira of the northern part of Kurdistan.

Although the Kurdish media facilities were limited during Baqi Khdo's life, the Kurdish singer's works still exist and people still listen to them. The songs of Baqi Khdo are sung by his children and grandchildren.

In addition to the Kurds, other nations listened to Kurdish culture and history through Baqi Khdo. A Swiss woman, for instance, has prepared her doctoral thesis in English on the legend of the Dawreshe Avdi, written by Baqi Khdo.

Baqi Khdo spoke five languages: Kurdish, Arabic, Turkish, Armenian, and French. He has traveled to Syria, Turkey, Iraq, and Lebanon, and once, he and the Kamancha player Mohammed Khalil Ghazi were invited to Lebanon by the Al-Arz Association.

Before his death, Baqi Khdo was honored by students at Aleppo University in the presence of about 600 intellectuals, writers, and students.

Baqi Khdo passed away on February 7, 2009, in Kobane and was buried in the cemetery of Tarmak village.
