Jigarkhwen, a Poet Full of Concern for Kurdistan

His name is Shekhmus son of Hassan son of Muhammad. He was born in 1903 in the village of Hasar, west of Hasankef City, North part of Kurdistan.

Jigaekhwen said himself:

I was born in 1903

When I was born, they named me after Sultan Sheikhmus

When Jigarkhwen was still young, his father died. He went to Amude City with his mother, sister, and brothers, and his mother died there too.

“I suffered a lot because of the lack of resources to learn poetry, but I continued my efforts until I wrote poetry and published books, so the next generation after me will not suffer from lack of resources".

He started school in 1917 and finished in 1932. He worked as a mullah for a while. He went to Jazira in Syria with a group of Kurdish farmers and rebuilt two villages.

Jigarkhwen participated in the revolution of Sheikh Saeed Piran. The brutal defeat of the revolution had a great impact on Shekhmus's national feelings and caused a great wound in his heart. After that, he chose the surname "Jigarkhwen" for himself. After this tragedy, he devoted all his poetry to Kurdistan. He had turned his talent into a dagger to the enemy's chest and a bell to awaken his nation.

In 1946, Qamishli welcomed the famous writer and poet Jigarkhwen as he returned to the West part of Kurdistan from the North part of Kurdistan. He began his life in the city of Amude in the West part of Kurdistan, then moved to Qamishli, where he remained until the end of his life.

Jigarkhwen has traveled to several European countries and has eight books of poetry, some fiction, cultural, and historical books. After a long journey to Europe, he returned to Qamishli.

The citizens of Qamishli enjoyed the style of Jigarkhwen's poetry, so most of the people of the city memorize his poems.

After the July 14, 1958 revolution, he came to Iraq and worked for a while in the Kurdish station. He also taught at the Kurdish Department of the College of Arts at Baghdad University for a while.

Jigarkhwen expressed his political views through literature and writing, so that many of his works reflected these subjects, or were on the thought of the Kurdish issue. He has suffered many arrests, imprisonments, sufferings, and tortures along this path.

He died on 22/10/1984 in Stockholm, Sweden, and was buried in Qamishli, West part of Kurdistan.

1- Poetry: (Brisk and Peti, Sawra Azadi, Kima Az, Ronak, Zand Avesta, Shafaq, Hevi).

2- Story: (Jim and Gul Peri, Rashuye Dari, Salar and Media).

3- Language and Grammar: (Proverbs, Kurdish Language Grammar, Kurdish Dictionary 1-2).

4- He wrote several other works, which were published after his death such as Ashti (poetry), Kurdish History 1-2, Kurdish Folklore, Zhina Nigerya Min, A Writing on the Daibache of Ahmadi Khani.
