Mozhgan Kavousi, an Activist for the Preservation of the Kurdish Language

Mozhgan Kavousi was born in 1976 in Dezful, Khuzestan province, southwestern Iran. Her family is one of the Yarsani Kurdish families who were exiled to Kalar Dasht in Mazandaran province in northern Iran during the Safavid rule. However, Mozhgan was born in Dezful because of her father's job. After her father retired, they returned to Kalar Dasht and lived there until she was 18. Since 1994, they have been living in Nowshahr, Mazandaran province. She married at the age of 17 and has two children. She continued her studies in the field of art research until her master's degree. She is an activist for linguistic and ethnic rights. She has been active for years in her love for Kurdish language and literature.

Kavousi has also been active in the music industry for many years. After learning Iranian music and mastering the Setar, she turned to learning the Tamira, a Kurdish instrument that is sacred among the followers of the Yarsan religion. Her efforts to learn this instrument and the sacred texts of the Yarsan religion led her to travel to Kermanshan from northern Iran for many years, changing her views on the national issue and religious oppression of the Kurds of East Kurdistan. In 2014, she became a human rights activist, emphasizing the linguistic and ethnic rights of Kurds in the East part of Kurdistan and throughout Iran.

Since 2015, Mozhgan has been working in an organization called "Diyar e Kohan" (The Ancient Land) in Kalar Dasht and is also known as The Land's Organization, and she has been involved in several activities such as organizing World Mother Language Day, several festivals about Kurdish culture in Kalar Dasht, establishing a Kurdish literary council and organizing conferences. She has conducted Kurdish language teaching.

She has been arrested and imprisoned twice for the activities and other reasons. She is also active in the elimination of racial and gender discrimination.

Some of her works include the translation of the book Taqa Pashmawa about the Anfal campaign in the South part of Kurdistan published by Tawakkuli Press, writing books for children in Kurdish of Kalar Dashti dialect, writing several scientific articles about the Kurdish language and Kurdish of Kalar Dashti dialect for seminars and Festivals, production of short films “Anxious Cold Flowers” and “Hiwa” about the danger of destruction of Kurdish artificial industry and Kurdish language in Kalar Dasht.

Mozhgan Kavousi, whose first professional film is Hiwa, has completed a filmmaking training course at Chalous Youth Cinema Council. Kavousi has made a documentary called “Anxious Cold Flowers” about the danger of the artificial rug industry among the Kurds of Klardasht.

The 120-second short film "Barbad" is another of her works.

She is currently producing a short documentary film "Afrat" about the Kermanshan earthquake.
