Dr. Rebwar Siwayli, a stylist thinker

Rebwar Siwayli is an author and scholar in the fields of literature and philosophy. He studied philosophy at Salahaddin University and Denmark which led him to receive his doctorate degree. Apart from his academic work and teaching in the Department of Philosophy of Salahaddin University, he was an active member of the Kurdish Academy.

Dr. Rebwar Siwayli has published a number of books in the fields of philosophy and literature. Each of those books was a turning point in a new attitude toward literature. He has a unique method of dealing with texts. Like any brilliant scholar, he probes the roots of the subject but at the same time presents his own views and creative inquiries; a view that distinguishes his writings from all previous ones. For instance, a number of articles and commentaries have been written on Nali’s poetry for decades. However, being aware of those books written before, “The Nali’s book” in two volumes was Rebwar Siwayli’s study on Nali. What Siwayli presents about Nali in the two books differs from all the previous views. The previous works emphasized on understanding the meaning of Nali’s poetry, Siwayli however broadens the view of Nali and addresses his philosophy. He describes how Nali recognized phenomena and existence and how they are embodied in his texts. These existence and phenomena range from Nali’s distinguished Donkey (Nali has a poem about his donkey) to his ravaged chamber from the time he was a jurist.

Furthermore, Rebwar Siwayli describes the meaning of time and space in Haji Qader Koyi’s poetry in his book, “Contemporary and Co-Identity”. Before that, however, he explains the definition of those meanings from Plato to St. Augustine in detail. Interestingly, he later came to the conclusion that not all the questions about time and place in Haji Qader Koyi’s poetry have been answered. Siwaily decided to write two books, “Haji Qader’s Book” in 360 pages to expose the causes of analysis as well as many aspects of the philosophy of time and space.

Siwayli has not finished his studies on literature and poetry yet. His latest book, “The Qubad’s Book”, is a 350-page book on Qubad Jalizdeh’s poetry, methods, and thoughts. In this book, Siwayli answers questions about Qubad Jalizadeh’s poetry. Qubad is a poet of women and eroticism, for women and for eroticism, for the homeland and for gentleness. These and many other questions about Qubad Jalizadeh’s poetry are the contents of Siwayli’s book.

Apart from literature, which is his continuous work, he has contributed many important works in the field of philosophy to the Kurdish library.

These works include the following books:

* "The illness and death of a philosopher" with an introduction by the European  philosopher Jobs Stabrand

* Ethical and medical philosophy and patients' rights

* Philosophy of environmental ethics

*Philosophy of Food «Philosophy of Cooking»

* Confused society

* The return of Colonialism

* Iron cage

* The Book of Praises

* A letter to St. Augustine

* The world of small things

* My Holy Book

These and many other books of Rebwar Siwayli will fill the cognitive lack of the Kurds as long as they would be contemplated upon.
