Kurdish Film Festival Held in Amsterdam

The Amsterdam Kurdish Film Festival was held on May 12, 13, and 14 in Amsterdam, the Netherlands.

Kurdshop- The second Kurdish Film Festival in Amsterdam began this year under the slogan "Women, Life, Freedom", and Zahavi Sanjawi won the best director award at the second Kurdish film festival in Amsterdam.

The Amsterdam Kurdish Film Festival was held on May 12, 13, and 14 in Amsterdam, the Netherlands.

The festival lasted for three days and Kurdish directors and actors participated in the festival with their short films, feature films, documentaries, and animations.

The festival began with a film by Negin Ahmad about the fight of Kurdish women fighters against ISIS terrorists.

Filmmaker Najla Demirci's documentary about the “state of emergency” in the North part of Kurdistan, in which two people are dismissed by order of the rule of law, was screened at the festival. The film “For Justice” by Alif Yigit, about the story of the Shenyashar family in Raha, North part of Kurdistan, whose relatives were killed and then started working for justice, was also screened. Afterward, a documentary film about three characters of the state of emergency prepared by Ali Kamal Chinar was shown to the audience.

Kurdish singer Ayshe Rosa and electric guitarist Chenk Shanlioglu performed live at the festival. Music and dance artists appeared in front of the participants and spectators too.

The short film "Mind Clemency" directed by Warman Saeed won the Best Actor award. The film tells the story of a very old man and woman whose son is missing and the mother suffers from Alzheimer's disease due to the loss of her son.

A film directed by Zahavi Sanjawi, Imad's Child, also won the best director award.

The 77-minute documentary tells the story of little Imad, who lives in a Kurdish camp two and a half years after his younger brother, Idan, and mother, Khazal, were captured by ISIS fighters.
