Kurdshop_ The forty-second film festival in Istanbul was held by Istanbul Foundation for Culture and Art (IKSV) and the gold tulip for the best film in the Homeland category was given to “Aisha Polat” whose film plot is about “The Saturday Mothers”.

In the Istanbul film festival, “Aisha Polat”s film called “In the Blind Spot” won the gold tulip.

“In the blind spot” also won the best scenario, best story, and best animation prizes. After receiving the prize, “Aisha Polat” the director of this film said: “I was inspired by the Saturday Mothers for this film. And also I take this prize in the name of those mothers. I hope we see better days soon.”

In the 42nd Istanbul film festival which was held for 12 days, 134 films and 29 short films were screened for the cinema fans. This festival was held in 14 categories this year and 160 directors from 84 countries participated.

Aisha Polat, Kurdish director, play writer, and producer was born in 1970 in Malatiye Province in the North part of Kurdistan. She moved to Germany with her family in order to find better job opportunities and she is the third child in her family. She finished her school education in Hamburg, Germany, and later attended Berman University to study German Language and Literature. She attended Berlin University at the same time to study Philosophy and Culture. She began making films when she was 15 years old and has directed tens of short and long films. She has participated in several significant film festivals, too. Her film named En Garde won the silver Panther at the international “Lokano” film festival. German film critics chose this film as the best film of the year in 2005.
