Erivan Barut, a kickboxer from Dersim, has achieved many great successes in Turkey and abroad; she has now won the title of world kickboxing champion in Hungary.
Erivan Barut reached the final of the World Kickboxing Championships held in Hungary from June 15 to 18. Today, after beating her Kazakh opponent, she reached the final round and won the final against her Polish opponent; she became the world kickboxing champion and won the championship cup.
Erivan Barut is a 22-year-old girl from Dersim, North part of Kurdistan, who speaks Zazaki. But earlier, when she participated in a television program and tried to speak in her mother tongue, she was criticized for some Turkish words in her speech. She said, "From now on, one of my most important tasks will be to learn my mother tongue well. Let everyone know this. I am a young athlete from Dersim, but just because I am seen as the representative of Dersim in the world does not mean that I do not fulfill my most important task and I will definitely fulfill that main task (speaking my mother tongue well). But this is a social problem and I want to make everyone think about it."
