On Sunday, February 18th, 2024, the eighteenth international Kurdish theater festival was held in Saqqez. Theater directors and actors from Kermashan and Urmia Provinces from the East part of Kurdistan participated in this festival in the "Plato" hall in Saqqez.

In this festival, eight plays from the southern part of Kurdistan, two plays from the western part of Kurdistan, and two plays from the northern part of Kurdistan were sent to the directing office of the Kurdish theater festival of Saqqez. In the end, only four plays from the southern part of Kurdistan were chosen to take part in the festival. From the East part of Kurdistan, nineteen plays had been sent and eight of them were chosen by the referee committee to participate in the first section of the festival. it is worth mentioning that a play from the southern part of Kurdistan was chosen to be introduced as the guest play.

The Kurdish theater festival will be held in four days. The plays chosen for this festival are all played in the Kurdish language and each director has participated in this festival with one play. It is decided that on Thursday, February 22nd, 2024, the closing ceremony of this festival to be held in which the groups or individuals who took part in various sections of this festival to be introduced.

On Sunday, the first day of the festival, two plays named "Three Women" from Kermashan and "Kaladosha Aloke" from Urmia were performed for the audience.

On Monday, the second day of the festival, four plays titled "A Darkness Awareness" from Duhok, "Oedipus, the King" from Saqqez, "Darwish or Godot" from Duhok, and "Worker" from Kirkuk were performed.

On Tuesday, the third day of the festival, three plays called "Missing" from Sna, "Hat and Glass" from Duhok (guest play), and "I Saw Humans Naked" from Kirkuk were performed.

It is decided that on Wednesday, the fourth day of this festival, four plays named "The Bird That…" from Sna, "The Law of the Red Braids" from Qorveh, "Mem and Zin" from Urmia and "We have a bride and a wedding" from Sna to be performed. It is worth mentioning that on Thursday, the closing ceremony of this festival will be held and the groups and individuals participating in various sections of this festival will be introduced.

The Kurdish theater festival is the second largest theater festival in the East part of Kurdistan after Marivan's street theater festival that started to be held in 1999 and is performed every year. Despite the efforts to record this festival as a national theater festival in Iran, the Ministry of Culture in Iran has not agreed to record it thus, it does not receive any budget.
