In 1969, in Naqadeh, East part of Kurdistan, a child was born to Kurdish and Turkish parents who later became a world hero. The name of the hero of the Kurdish nation is Mohammad Awraz. He is the third Iranian to climb Mount Everest after Humaan Aprin and Jalal Qasabani.
Mohammad Awraz's ability has been unprecedented in the world because he climbed the mountain at an altitude of 8000 meters without using an oxygen capsule.
When he was born, his father was in prison in Falak-ol-Aflak prison in Khorram-Awa (Khorramabad), Lorestan province. His father is imprisoned for his political activities. Mohammad Awraz faced many problems since childhood because his father was in prison and later, he and his family were deported to Kashmar in Khorasan province. He and his family lived away from their hometown for three years and then returned to Naqadeh.
He started his education in 1976, two years before the Iranian Revolution. He completed his primary, secondary, and high school education in Naqadeh and received a diploma in economics and social sciences. In 1994, he started studying in the Department of Sports at Urmia University.
Before going to university, Mohammad Awraz was in the mountaineering groups of Qandil and Samrand in Naqadeh; however, in 1994, he officially established the Naqadeh Mountaineering Center. Later, because he was a very talented mountaineer, he climbed the Gasherbrum II and Rakaposhi Mountains in Pakistan with the Iranian mountaineering team. This victory made Mohammad Awraz record another pride for his nation.
Four years after Mohammad Awraz's victory over the two mountains of Pakistan, in 1998, he climbed the world's highest mountain, Everest, with three other Iranian climbers. This was a turning point in his life.
When Mohammad Awraz recorded these honors, he was a youth, but his fate was written differently. In 2003, when he was only 34, he was with a mountaineering team along with Moqbel Hunarpazhu from Bokan. They wanted to climb Mount Gasherbrum I. However, the team fell into the snow and Mohammad Awraz was seriously injured and died after 20 days in Shafa Hospital in Islamabad, Pakistan. He was buried in the Mountain of Sultan Yaqub of Naqadeh according to his will.
The early death of Mohammad Awraz did not allow him to record more pride for his nation. He climbed several of the world's highest mountains and received certificates in various fields of mountaineering.
The death of the famous Kurdish climber has become a source of inspiration for Kurdish youth and has created a sense of feeling among the Kurdish people. He said he was raised in Mount Qandil in Kurdistan, so he was able to climb Everest. In most cities in the eastern part of Kurdistan, there is a public place named after the Kurdish climber. He is now regarded as a national pride among the Kurdish nation and the Kurds refer to him as an example to introduce themselves to the world.
