Fetaneh Welidi, An Innovative Female Singer

The artist "Fetaneh Welidi", the daughter of "Sharif Welidi", was born in April 1967 in Sna (Sanandaj), East part of Kurdistan. Her father was both a violinist and a singer at the time. He was the one who encouraged Fetaneh to sing and become a Kurdish artist. Fetaneh entered Sna's radio station when she was 6 or 7 years old with the help of Hassan Kamkar, the Kamkar group's father. This was her first attempt at singing and artistic works. Later, she attended art school in Tehran. She sang her songs with prominent artists of Sna such as Saleh Pirzahiri, Baha-al din Newrozi, Houshang Shigerf, Behrouz Tawakoli, and some other artists. The music players who had worked with Fetaneh at that time in Sna were: Grisha Mikaielzadeh, Hassan Kamkar, Mozaffar Kamkar, and Bijan Kamkar.

Fetaneh recorded 56 songs on Sna and Kermashan radio stations but only one album has remained among them and most of her other works were not played and published. For example, her song, "Balarzaneh", was covered later by "Hossein Shokhkaman" (Zezi Brothers Group), and "Naser Razazi" also recorded the song in "Barda Barda" album in 1984.

Unfortunately, this artist's professional life was very short due to her health issues and Alzheimer and she left art because of her life incidents, however, she could play a significant and historical role during this short time in the Kurdish music field. With her beautiful voice and art in the society of Kurdistan at that time, she played an innovative role in this field.

Fetaneh became a leading female artist who motivated other women in the East part of Kurdistan and the Great Kurdistan, too, and other female singers followed her such as Shahin Talaban, Mastoura Asadi, and Sdiqa Mohammadnezhad. Unfortunately, except for Shahin Talaban, the other singers left their artistic careers after a short while. However, after Fetaneh, tens of girls and women in other parts of Kurdistan stepped into the world of art and became singers who possessed a prominent place among people. Thus, Fetaneh Walidi can be known as an innovative Kurdish artist.

"Fetaneh Walidi" an innovative female artist, not only sang some songs that became the young Kurdish people, especially the young lovers' favorite works but they also influenced the next generations, and several of her songs were covered by Kurdish female singers, and even, male singers later. One of her voice's special features is its originality, the sense of sadness and suffering, and softness that carries a sense of pure love quality to Kurdish people which has always been different generations' favorite songs.

Sadly, Fetaneh was one of those artists whose sufferings in her life and the traditional society did not let her live the way she liked and develop her art and voice. In fact, Fetaneh's life shows the tragic side of our art that such a professional artist like her cannot continue her work under many kinds of pressure and thus suffers to the last minutes of her life.
