Khan Mohammad Adinepour, a Kurmanji Artist from Khorasan, Passed Away

Khan Mohammad Adinepour, a Kurd from Khorasan, was a teacher and pioneer of the world of maqam music and a talented player of the Qoshma, Kamanche, and Dotar. He has won several great awards at Iranian music festivals.

Khan Mohammad was born in 1952 in Khanlaq of Shirvan city in North Khorasan province. He devoted more than sixty years of his life to playing and performing folklore Kurmanji music, and he created many valuable works and saved many folk songs from extinction.

Qoshma instrument is used in gatherings and weddings and is known as Duzala in the East part of Kurdistan. Among the Kurds of Khorasan, it is known as Qoshma and is available in most cities of North Khorasan. It is an old Kurdish instrument.

Khan Mohammed describes his instrument as follows:

The Qoshma I play has been in my hands for almost sixty years and used it at all gatherings, parties, and weddings. It is made of an eagle's wing, and to stick its pieces together, a kind of glue produced from the tears of deer's eyes has been used, so its sound is completely natural and mixed with the music of nature.

Khan Mohammed passed away on Monday, July 3, 2023, and left Qoshma, music, and playing instruments forever, but Khan Mohammad's name, voice, and art will remain forever among his people, country, and loved ones.
