The Historical Bazaar of Urmia

The roof of this bazaar has collapsed over time in some places and has been restored by Cultural Heritage in recent years. The historical bazaar of Urmia consists of seven different sections.

Kurdshop- The historical bazaar of Urmia in the East part of Kurdistan is one of the historical places of the city whose ancient monuments have survived since the Safavid period. This bazaar, which is now one of the oldest economic centers of Urmia, is located on Imam Road.

Urmia Bazaar has been connected with Khoy, Tabriz, and Kafkasia bazaars throughout history. It covers an area of 5 hectares and now has about 1000 shops.

Located in southeastern Urmia, this covered bazaar has a simple architecture that does not feature artistic and decorative patterns such as tiles and paintings of other typical Iranian bazaars.

The bazaar is built entirely of bricks and consists of different intersections. The roof of the bazaar, consisting of a series of arches and domes, has been restored in recent years and is very attractive.

Like most Iranian bazaars, this bazaar consists of different sections such as houses, bathrooms, palaces, and mosques, which shows the richness and antiquity of this historical bazaar throughout history. Part of this bazaar belongs to the Safavid period and other parts were added to the bazaar during the Zand and Qajar periods. This bazaar consists of the following sections: perfumery, painting, stone carving, knife making, Mirza Hussein Agha bazaar, handicrafts, Aleppo making, etc.

Urmia Bazaar is one of the most important places that tourists visit and buy things in the bazaar. This bazaar was registered on the Iranian National Heritage List in 1983.
