Fila Hill is a 12000-Year-Old Monument in North Kurdistan

The excavation of this monument has been completed.

Kurdshop- In the town of Karazi, Amed, North Kurdistan, in the Ambar neighborhood, a historical site called "Gre Fila" has a very long history that is the same as the history of Gre Mirazan and dates back 11 to 12 thousand years ago, and the excavation and investigation of "Fila Hill" are completed.

Under the supervision of the Director of the Amed Museum and the scientific advisor of the Head of the Department of Archeology of Kocaeli University of Science and Literature, Professor Dr. Aisha Tuba Okse, excavations and research have started in Gre Fila since 2018, and 3233 artifacts have been found at this site.

According to the information revealed to the public, the number of ancient tools and pieces found in this place has reached 3 thousand 233 pieces, and "Professor Dr. Aisha Tuba Okse says the pieces have now been handed over to the Diyarbakır Museum Administration. Many of them, as we define them in archaeological language, are stone tools for grinding, or mortars and pestles made of stone and wood. Others are made for digging and drilling stones, wood, or gravel. Cutting and drilling tools have also been made from animal bones.

"Fila Hill is a place of Neolithic settlement and has the same antiquity and contemporary as Gre Mirazan and now we know that both were built at the same time," Dr. Aisha Tuba Okse said. Similar to Gre Mirazan, brick and mud buildings were constructed. There are 4 tall pillars in both of these buildings, each about 2-3 meters into the ground, and the roof of the building was built on those bases. The distance between each pillar varies from 8 to 10 meters. It is estimated that 25 people lived in the buildings. It is the oldest monument ever discovered in Diyarbakir.

She added, "All the pieces found at this site will be preserved in the Diyarbakir Museum. The most important thing that we wish to do is to preserve the structures like the wells, ponds, and foundations. Diyarbakir Prison will be the site of the museum and parts of Gre Fila will be moved to the area. It is not known when this will be done, depending on the ministry's program.
