North Part of Kurdistan; Last Year Exported Black Pepper Powder to 104 Countries

Based on the exporting community of south of Anadolu that includes a number of the North part of Kurdistan provinces, in 2022 as much as 10 million and 549-thousand-dollar black pepper powder have been exported from this region to 104 countries.

Kurdshop_ In 2022 the North part of Kurdistan was the first region in Raha province and also among other regions in exporting black pepper powder as much as 10 million and 549 thousand dollars to 104 countries.

In the North part of Kurdistan pepper is consumed greatly but it also has become an important trading center for this product. Based on Anadolu’s exporting community which includes a number of North part of Kurdistan provinces in 2022 as much as 10 million and 549-thousand-dollar black pepper powder have been exported from this region to 104 countries. Among these countries that have imported black pepper powder from Kurdistan are Germany in the first place with 435 thousand dollars, the Netherlands in the second place with 430 thousand dollars, and Saudi Arabia in the third place with 362 thousand dollars.

In the first three months of this year compared to last year's, black pepper powder export has increased 14 percent, and as much as 2 million and 877 thousand dollars of this product has been exported to 68 countries. In January, March, and April of 2023, more than 1035 tons of dried pepper has been exported to Germany, Netherlands, Saudi Arabia, Britain, the Kurdistan Region of Iraq, France, United States, Russia, United Emirates, Libya, Canada, China, Oman, Japan, Bulgaria, Ghana, Mozambique, Cuba, and Morocco.

Isa Qizaldemir the head of Raha’s Exchanging Council said: “An increase in exporting black pepper powder began last year and it has continued so far in the first three months of 2023. The farmers keep their work although it is hard to harvest this product.”

He also said: “When it is about spices and pepper harvesting, Raha is the first place that comes to mind. Pepper is mostly harvested in Raha in Turkey. The exporting companies export our pepper product to other countries. I believe our spices will make restaurants’ food around the world more delicious in the next year. Pepper is ready to harvest in a short time. If the farmers are supported, we can increase the exports of this product.”
