Although Kurds in Iran have never been subjected to the level of brutality as that of their counterparts in Turkey and Iraq, the Iranian government has always been no less vehement in its opposition to any form of a separate Kurdish entity. Iran's opposition stems from its fears of what such a prospect may hold for other ethnic groups within its boundaries who may be encouraged
by any Kurdish gains, and thus demand a similar treatment; among these ethnic groups are the Arabs, Azeris and Baluchis.
