Kurdshop _ Zerzavan Castle in Diyarbakir possesses an ancient history of 3 thousand years and it was used as a great Romani military headquarter. Using a geographical radar called "georadar", it has been discovered that there are very large constructions under this castle.
Zerzavan Castle is located in Chinari town near Amad Province in the North part of Kurdistan and it is on the route from Amad to Mardin. It has witnessed many historical civilizations and it had been particularly used as military headquarters of Romani on the border of this region during Romani's time period which means the history of this castle goes back to 611_ 882 B.C. at the time of Assyrians. In the third century A.D. at the time of Romada i.e., during Romanian Savarosida at 198_ 235 A.D., it was used as military headquarters and it continued to be used for the same purpose until 639 when it was invaded by the Muslim troops. Zerzavan Castle was recorded as an international historical monument in 2020.
Zerzavan Castle is surrounded by a 1200 meters wall that is as high as 12 to 15 meters in order to protect it from military invasions. The common hall is located at the south part of the castle and there are 21 meters high towers in this part for watching over the surrounding areas. There is also a church, the official building, the artillery, and the place in which they used to present their sacrifices to the gods which are all made of stone. There are the remains of some structures that were built in the same way. The roads, alleys, and buildings are in the northern part of the castle.
A well, an underground church, an underground shelter, and a Mithras temple are at the east border of Roma in this area where these structures have been found. On the outside of the walls, there are several canals to transfer water to the people who used to live in this castle. The sacrificing pots, stone mines, and a cemetery with stone tombs and dome tombs have been found.
During the research done on Zerzavan Castle in 2014, hundreds of historical artifacts were discovered. After using "georadar" devices, the research team proved that there are very large underground structures beneath the castle. So, the research team began their probing once more for discovering the magic and mysteries in the Mithra temple.
The head of the Zerzavan research team, "Dochand D. Aytach Koshkun" said that the project of repairing this building is finished and in a short time this castle, the south tower, and the great church will be reconstructed.
He also said that they will continue their examinations: "One of our significant fields of research is to study the holy Mithra zone. We believe that many unanswered questions about Mithra will be responded to. There are many issues and questions and I assume that we will answer the hidden aspects of Mithra during our research until the end of this year."
Koshkun has verified that there is a large city underneath Zerzavan Castle, but after our search, we found a large underground city, too. Using georadars, we have found very large constructions underneath the ground.
Professor Koshkun also said; "these buildings have 4 or 5 floors" and he verified that: "these buildings are so big that thousands of people can inhabit there. We can even say that the underground city is larger than the city found on the surface. We have begun our research to prove this. Thousands of historical artifacts and tools were found in Zerzavan Castle. Now, 120 items are transferred to the historical museum inside the castle. The project of building a museum is proved to be started in the near future."
