The border city of Baneh with a population of 158 thousand people is located 270 kilometers northwest of the city of Sna, the center of Sna Province. In the East part of Kurdistan, Baneh is known as a border city where most of its people are busy working in the borders and being Kolbars (those people who transfer goods on the borders on their shoulders) and there are shopping malls for all the people in Iran to visit and buy their houseware devices from their shops. However, recently, Baneh has become a pole in manufacturing energy saving lightbulbs in Iran and the East part of Kurdistan. According to the Sna Province statistics, this province is developing industry while compared to other provinces in Iran, Sna Province is still at the beginning of industrialism and it is mostly known as an agriculture and farming region. The authorities claim that the lack of industry in this province is mostly due to the lack of enough plains and ground for building factories. In addition to the lack of enough ground, the supply of capital has become a problem for investors. Sna Province has 1027 industrial units, of which 15 percent of these units, that is 131 industrial units, are inactive. Annually, 50 million energy saving lightbulbs are produced in Sna Province, 40 million of which are manufactured in Baneh which includes 70 percent of Iran's energy saving lightbulbs.
There are 7 manufacturing units in Sna Province, 4 of which are in Baneh, 2 are in Saqqez and one of them is in Sna city. Baneh is known as one of the most important centers for manufacturing energy saving lightbulbs in Iran. The energy saving lightbulb manufacturing units have created job opportunities for hundreds of people in this city. Regarding energy saving lightbulbs investments, six active units are working in this field, three of which are 60% developed and another one of them is 20% developed.
The "Tak Tab" energy saving lightbulb factory began its work in 2017 with 30 staff members and later they hired 105 members. The first phase of this project has started with the amount of 110 billion tomans of capital and produces 25 thousand lightbulbs per day. The second phase of the project is expected to be implemented in the coming years and it is estimated that it could create job opportunities for more than 200 people.
The first phase of the project began with an area of 1200 square meters and the second phase of this unit is planned to be built on three floors with an area of 7000 square meters. The "Iran Zamin" energy saving lightbulb factory began its work in 2012 with 30 staff members and as they have developed their establishment 300 people have been hired in this factory. This unit manufactures 16 million LED energy saving lightbulbs and it is also one of the 5 main factories of energy saving lightbulbs in Iran that is in the development phase of their factory. This unit has begun manufacturing electric fuse and miniature switches.
The head of the industry, minerals, and trade department of Baneh stated that: the lightbulbs manufactured in Baneh include LED lamps, LED projectors, and halogen lamps. He also pointed out that right now these units only provide local needs thus, they do not export their products abroad. Based on the investors' capability to manufacture energy saving lightbulbs, other investors have taken steps in this field. Developing other units in Baneh, this city can begin exporting energy saving lightbulbs to the neighboring countries.
